The Aarju Foundation is a registered non-profit organization with the Charity Commissioner of Mumbai. It operates as a community-based organization, primarily dedicated to addressing the needs of marginalized populations, particularly those affected by and living with HIV. The organization places a specific emphasis on addressing the challenges faced by the Men who have Sex with Men (MSM) community, inclusive of transgender and ‘hijra’ populations in Mumbai and various districts across Maharashtra.
A group of dedicated social workers and community activists established Aarju Foundation in the year 2005 aiming to improve the socio-economic conditions of most disadvantaged population particularly of sexual minorities, marginalised woman, children and the unemployed youths in both rural and urban areas in Maharashtra through implementing program interventions in the fields of HIV prevention and care, poverty alleviation, non-formal education, adult literacy, health and nutrition, family planning, legal aid support, advocacy and social protection.
